Primary Athletic Insurance

Athletic Advantage

What is it? – Athletic Advantage is a sports accident policy designed to provide coverage for student athletes who currently have no primary insurance and for international recruits who lack athletic insurance protection. Because college and university athletic insurance continues to rise in cost, Dissinger Insurance Services developed Athletic Advantage to alleviate some of the cost and claims experience from the school's excess policy. For students who do not currently have insurance, ATHLETIC ADVANTAGE WILL ACT AS PRIMARY ATHLETIC INSURANCE. The result is fewer claims on the university policy which should lead to reduced athletic insurance premiums.

Athletic Advantage can be used for colleges and universities who require student athletes to have primary insurance as well as institutions that include walk-on or non-scholarship athletes.

Why Athletic Advantage makes sense for you…

  • Athletic Advantage offers a limited sickness benefit for athletes who would generally not have any coverage at all.
  • Athletic Advantage will provide primary coverage (when no other insurance is available) so uninsured athletes’ claims are NOT paid entirely by the university (which directly relates to increased claims experience and premiums).
  • Athletic Advantage makes sure the student athlete has SOME form of insurance before participating in an athletic event.
  • Athletic Advantage presents a vehicle for international recruits to obtain primary athletic coverage.
  • Athletic Advantage complements coverage for athletes who already have primary insurance with high deductibles, limited benefits or limited areas of service (i.e. HMO's).
